July - August 2024 Enhancements

Mobile App Version 2.1.1

Version 2.1.1 of the TroopWebHost Mobile App is now available for free at the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.  This version uses the latest version of the Reactive Native Expo development platform, which includes an entirely new version of the SQLite database engine.

Version 2.1.1 introduces these new features:

Please read on for more details!

Send Message To Drivers

The Send Message function in the mobile app has a new option to send the message just to the drivers for this event.  This will include drivers who are not attending the event.

View Event Documents

The mobile app now displays links to documents that are attached to an event or an event activity.

These links are only available when you have an Internet connection.

Click on the link to view the document or download it to your device.

Override Event Activity Credits

Earlier this year we expanded the functionality of event activities in the website and in the mobile app.  Among other things, this added the ability to sign up for activities and earn credits toward community service and conservation service.

Version 2.1.1 of the TroopWebHost Mobile App now allows authorized leaders to override those credits for members who participated, but did more or less than the norm.

This uses the existing Activity Credit button which appears once attendance has been finalized for the event.  Once the attendance at an event activity has been finalized, that activity will appear on the Activity Credit page, as shown below.  You may then override the hours earned by individual members.

View Cost When Signing Up

If you are using the auto-charge feature to automatically charge members when they sign up for an event, or if you've provided cost information in the Estimated Cost field for that event, that information is now visible in version 2.1.1 of the TroopWebHost Mobile App in the sign-up section for that event.

Family Account Balance

When you export your roster to Excel, you will see a new column next to the Account Balance that shows the "Family Account Balance".  This is the sum of the balances of that person plus all members to whom that person has a direct relationship or a secondary relationship.

Improved Message Delivery

Sending email is easy.  Getting email delivered is hard.  Especially when you are sending a message to dozens of people at a time.  These messages look a lot like spam, and every email server in the world is fighting to block spam.

A few weeks ago we discovered that Verizon's SMS Gateway was blocking messages sent from TroopWebHost sites.  It now appears we are having a similar problem with other cell phone carriers, as well.  This is preventing text messages (SMS) sent from TroopWebHost from being delivered to cell phones served by those carriers.

Attempts to resolve this through their customer service proved to be an exercise in futility, as you might excpect.

We use Amazon Web Services for email delivery.  With their standard service, TroopWebHost emails are sent from a pool of IP addresses which are shared with other AWS customers.  We believe that Verizon is blocking some or all of those IP addresses.

We addressed this issue by upgrading to a premium AWS email delivery service that gives us a new, dedicated IP address for all messages sent from TroopWebHost sites.  When this is fully phased in by mid-September, we are hopeful this will allow SMS messages to be delivered again.

This should also make it less likely that TroopWebHost email will get blacklisted in the future.

We apologize for this disruption in service and any inconvenience it may have caused.
