January 2024 Enhancements

Automatically Send New User ID

TroopWebHost automatically creates a user ID whenever you add a scout or adult member.  You may also add user IDs from the Users & Passwords page.

You may now configure your site to automatically generate an email whenever you add a new user.  This email will include their user ID and temporary password, along with a link to your site.  It can also contain an additional message that you provide.

This email will only be sent to users who have at least one email address on their membership record.  It will not be sent to their SMS address.

To enable this feature, please open your main menu to Administration → Automatically Send New User IDs, as shown below.

This feature is turned off by default.  To enable this feature, check the box Automatically Send ID & Password To New Users?, then click Save.

You can customize the message in several ways:

The message will look like this, with the portion circled in red replaced by whatever you enter into the Email Message window.

Updated Palm Requirements

This feature does not apply to Cub Scout and Girl Scout sites.

Effective January 1, 2024, scouts no longer have to wait three months between Eagle Palms and they no longer need to have a scoutmaster conference for each Eagle Palm.  This eliminated requirements 1 and 5 from this achievement.

We created new versions of the 23 Eagle Palms to reflect this change, renumbering the remaining requirements from 1 to 3.  The prior version will now show as the "2017" version.

Any scouts who were in progress - but had not completed - the prior version were automatically assigned to the new version, and any completed requirements were linked to the corresponding requirement under the new version.

Preferred Name / Nickname

The Nickname field has been renamed "Preferred Name".  If present, we display the preferred name instead of the first name in most settings.

The nickname used to be displayed in quotation marks following the given first name, like this: John R "Lorenzo" Corning Jr.

In most settings, this name will now appear without quotation marks around the given name, like this: Lorenzo Corning Jr.

This mirrors recent changes made by the BSA in their forms and software.

Registered Gender

The Sex field on the membership record has been renamed "Registered Gender".

Scout Balances By Gender

This feature does not apply to Cub Scout and Girl Scout sites.

A new version of the Scout Balances report now groups the scouts by gender, with subtotals.

To produce this report, please go to Money → Financial Reports → Scout Balances By Gender.

New Widgets

This feature does not apply to Cub Scout and Girl Scout sites.

When viewed by the public - without logging on to the site - the "Upcoming Events" widget does not include events that are limited to a dynamic subgroup.  There is a new version of this widget that DOES include these events when viewed by the public:  "Upcoming Events - Public Sees All Events".

A second new widget is available for display on public or private pages: "Merit Badges Earned By Year".

This widget will display the number of merit badges earned by your scouts in each year.
