Keeping It Secure
For the past month, we've been primarily focused on security.
But before we get into that, I want to thank our newest subscribers for joining TroopWebHost!

In the past month, your web site security has been streamlined to provide faster performance, more consistency and fewer errors.

Don't Share Your User ID
Each member of your troop should be issued their own user ID and password. Each user should be assigned the appropriate roles so
they can access everything they need on the site.
Two users are not allowed to access the site at the same time with the same User ID. When a second person logs on with the same
User ID, the first person will be automatically logged off and have to log on again, which will knock the second person off.
If your users report this experience, ask them if they shared their User ID with someone else.

Who Gets To Do What?
While the roles you can assign members are intended to be self-explanatory, we've had several troops ask us for a better
explanation of how the security is configured for each role.
In response, we've added a new page to the Administration menu called Menu Security. This page displays all of the
possible menu items (everything that the site administrator sees) and shows what roles have access to each.
We recently added a new role, Adult Leader, which we will be assigning to some functions that should be available to all adult leaders.

User Groups
Another helpful tool under Administration is the User Groups function. This displays a list of the roles available in TroopWebHost.
Click Update to view and modify which users have access to that role.
We suggest that you be generous with your access. Make sure that you have several members authorized for each role, with the possible
exceptions of Treasurer and Site Administrator. If too few people have access to the Event Planner and Historian roles, you will find that the calendar
does not get updated as frequently as it should.
You should also consider assigning privileged roles to some of your scouts, especially the senior members of the troop.

Parents Can View Their Sons' Rank Advancement
Scouts have always been able to view their rank advancement status on-line, but their parents did not have access
to this same information.
Several troops asked us to add this feature, which is now available.
The My Scouts function on the My Stuff menu now allows parents to view...
- Current rank status and the requirements to complete future ranks
- Merit badges - completed and in progress
- Other awares - completed and in progress
In each case you can see which of the requirements have been completed by your scout, and which are still outstanding.

Thanks again for all of your support!
