April 2022 Enhancements


Citizenship in the Nation

We thought we were up to date on all of the 2022 requirement changes, but then we were alerted to a new version of Citizenship in the Nation merit badge!  This was a major rewrite of the badge, so we created a new version in TroopWebHost.

Scouts who were already underway with the previous version will now see the name of their badge as "Citizenship in the Nation (old rqmts)".  If they want to switch to the new version of the badge, delete the old version from their list and add the new one.

This feature does not apply to Cub Scout and Girl Scout sites.



Journey To Excellence 2022

The 2022 specifications for Journey To Excellence have been incorporated into TroopWebHost.  This includes changes to the text for every objective.  It also includes a new requirement for achieving the Gold level for Objective 10.

Objective 10 is Leadership and family engagement.  The new requirement is to recruit at least one new adult leader.

We implemented this new requirement by looking for a member who joined the troop during the year and holds a current adult leadership position.

This feature is not available for Cub Scout and Girl Scout sites.



Square Upgrade - Phase 1

Many of our scouting units use Square to accept credit card and debit card payments.  Square recently rewrote their software that allows us to connect to their systems.  We began making changes to our software to work with this new API ("Application Program Interface").

We completed the first phase of this upgrade, which affects how the credit card form appears on the page.  It all works the same, it just looks slightly different.

The next phase of the project will change the way our server communicates with Square to complete the payment.  In this phase we will have the opportunity to add support for ACH bank transfers, for which the Square processing fee is only 1% of the payment amount.  Look for this in an upcoming newsletter!
