August 2021 Enhancements

Who Is Using The Mobile App?

On August 21, we began logging every time the TroopWebHost mobile app communicates with our server.  While our primary goal was to measure our server's performance (see next section below), this had the added benefit of tracking who is using the app.

Site administrators who are trying to encourage use of the mobile app by their scouts may now go to Administration → Users & Passwords, where they will see a new column:  Mobile App Last Access.  This shows the date and time that this person last accessed the server from the mobile app.

If this column is blank, it means they haven't used the app yet!

Mobile App Download Performance

With the Mobile App API now logging every acces, we now have a way to spot any performance issues in the API.

We used this information to significantly reduce the time it takes to download the Event Participant table, even when doing a full download.  This should reduce the overall download time by a noticeable amount.

Going forward, we will be looking for other ways to reduce the time it takes to synchronize the data on the mobile app.

Email Balances Below An Amount

The Email Account Balances page allows your treasurer to send out personalized messages to each member of the troop.  This message includes the account balance of the recipient;  for parents, it also includes the balances of their scouts.

This page has two new features:

Pecatonica River Popcorn

For many years we've helped you jump start your popcorn sales campaign by letting you select Trails End from the drop down box for National Sales Campaigns.

This month we added support for an alternative supplier used by many councils:  Pecatonica River Popcorn.

This year's Pecatonica product line is now available from the Nation Sales Campaign field.  Select it to populate your merchandise list, including a photo and description of each item.

Be sure to review the prices of each item, as this may be different in your council.

Contact Us Widget - Submit Button

We heard reports that some visitors were hesitating to use the Contact Us widget because they didn't see a "Submit" button.

This was never necessary, because the form automatically submits itself once the user satisfies the "Captcha" prompt...

...which it still does, but now you see a "Submit" button, too.

Who Added This Event?

This feature was actually introduced last month, but for some reason didn't make it into the July newsletter.

We now capture the identity of the user when they add an event to the calendar.

For any event added since late July, you will see this information displayed at the bottom of the first tab of the Maintain Events page.
